Apple pies, as they say, are an American institution. "As American as apple pie," as the saying goes. We're all familiar with the baked kind, but how many of us have heard of the fried variety?
They may not be as pretty as baked apple pies, but they're just as good, and easier to make. All you need is apple pie filling, pie crust dough, and a hot pot of oil.
First, cut the crust into 5-inch squares. Then put the apple pie filling in the middle, leaving a 1/2 inch margin on the sides. Fold the dough in two, so that the pie will look like a taco, and then seal the edges with a fork dipped in flour.
Then pop them into the oil, fry for 3-5 minutes, then drain with paper towels, and serve!
